REVIEWS:
An impressive compilation CD. One particular stand-out is Coal's cover
of Ace of Spades, an old Motorhead outtake, which they do like what
CENSORED Did to Lou Reed's Sweet Jane. Cub takes Motorhead to
girl pop stardom, showing how wonderfully juvenile Motorhead's antics
can be. Windwalker and Tankhog churn out a harder, more aggressive follow-up
to COAL and cub, with Burning Inside and So What. This one is a keeper.
-IN HELL'S BELLY-
The only good thing about the reception accorded Snow was that a few
thousand people were driven from the stadium to the grass field by the
small second stage, just in time to watch a very fine performance from
Vancouver's own Cub, the cuddliest nicest punk band this side of Shonen
Knife. Following cub was Coal, which might be best described as the
slowest, jazziest death-metal band imaginable. Coal would be the house
band in hell's version of New Orleans, Angelo Badalamenti conducting. The
quintet concluded its set with a haunting, inexplicably pretty version
of Motorhead's "Ace of Spades".
