The Mint is Still a Terrible Thing to
Taste-
CDep V/A (Mint Records) 1993.
Released in 1994, on Vancouver label Mint Records, this Cdep includes
the bands cub, COAL, Tankhog and Windwalker and their renditions of heavy
rock songs by Motorhead and Ministry. COAL's torchy cover of "Ace of Spades"
garnered them media attention across the country. At The Great Canadian
Party at UBC Thunderbird Stadium, the Georgia Straight review said:
"....Following cub was COAL, which might be described as the slowest,
jazziest death-metal band imaginable. COAL would be the house band in
hell's version of New Orleans, Angelo Badalementi conducting. The quintet
concluded it's set with a haunting, inexplicably pretty version of Motorhead's
"Ace of Spades." The video for the track (directed by Marcus Rogers of
COAL) was placed into medium rotation on MuchMusic for several weeks and
continues to get play every now and again. |
